Using the prayer site

How to pray for requests, submit your own, and sign up for a prayer hour.

The prayer site does four things:

  • Shows a live prayer wall of requests from across Woodside, so you can pray for real people right now.
  • Lets you submit your own prayer request or praise, which the pastoral team reviews before it goes on the wall.
  • Lets you claim a recurring 15-minute-to-one-hour slot each week, so the church is covered in prayer around the clock.
  • Walks you through a guided prayer session — Scripture, a timer, and the actual requests from the wall.

A rolling clock at the top of the home page shows the current time and tells you whether anyone is praying during this hour.

The whole site is readable without signing in, but almost everything you can do requires an account.

  1. 1Tap your avatar in the top-right corner of the header, then tap “Sign In”. (You can also tap any prayer hour, or the “Sign in to let them know you prayed” button on a request.)
  2. 2You are handed to MinistryPlatform. Sign in with your normal MinistryPlatform email and password.
  3. 3You land back where you started. While it happens you will see “Logging In” and “Redirecting to Ministry Platform…”.

To sign out: tap your avatar, then the ⋮ menu in the top-right of the profile panel, then “Sign out”. This signs you out of MinistryPlatform as well, not just the prayer site.

2.1 What you can and cannot do signed out

Read the whole prayer wall

You need to sign in for: Having your prayer counted

Open any request and read it in full

You need to sign in for: Submitting a request or praise

Browse the prayer hours to see who is signed up

You need to sign in for: Claiming a prayer hour

Read everything on the Resources page

You need to sign in for: The “My Requests” and “Upcoming Sessions” sections

Run a prayer session (nothing is recorded)

You need to sign in for: Your prayer journal, your stats, and your preferences

From top to bottom, the home page is: the clock, a strip of featured prayer events, the “Sign Up to Pray” banner, your upcoming sessions, your own requests, and then the prayer wall. A “Submit a Prayer Request/Praise” bar floats at the bottom of the screen once you are signed in.

3.1 The clock

Three rolling digit pairs show the current hour, minute and second in your own local time. Underneath, one of two things appears:

  • If someone has claimed the current hour: “Sarah is praying” or “4 people are praying”. This is information only — you cannot tap it.
  • If nobody has: a button reading “This hour needs prayer · Cover it now”. Tapping it does not sign you up for that hour — it drops you straight into a prayer session so the hour gets covered right now. Use “Sign Up to Pray” if you want the slot every week.

3.2 Featured prayer events

Directly under the clock, staff can feature upcoming prayer events as wide image cards. Tapping one opens the event registration page in a new tab. If nothing is featured, the strip simply is not there — there is no placeholder.

3.3 The prayer wall

The wall is headed “Prayers — What we’re praying for right now” and lays out as a grid of cards, one to five across depending on your screen. Everything currently eligible is shown at once; there is no “load more” to click.

A card shows:

  • The submitter’s photo or initials and name, with how long ago it was posted (“just now”, “5m”, “3h”, “2d”, then the date).
  • Small icons in the top-right for campus, category, and a warning triangle if it was flagged time-sensitive. Hover or long-press an icon to see its label.
  • The title, at most two lines.
  • In the bottom-right, a sparkle and the number of times people have prayed for it — or a status pill such as “Awaiting review”, “Answered”, “Team only”, or “Edit & resubmit”.

Church-wide requests sort to the top, then your own, then everyone else’s; within each group, urgent first, then whichever sort you have chosen.

3.4 Filtering and searching

Tap the round Filters button (on a phone, the ⋮ menu, then “Filter & Sort”). A panel opens with:

Search

What it does: Matches the title and body text of requests. It does not search names, despite the placeholder.

Campus

What it does: Switch between your own campus and “All Campuses”. This changes what you see only — it does not change which campus your next request posts to.

Category

What it does: “All”, or one or more of the categories the prayer team maintains (Health, Family, Spiritual, Missions, Church, Community, plus anything they have added).

Urgency

What it does: “All Requests” or “Time Sensitive”.

Sort By

What it does: “Most Prayed” (the default) or “A–Z”.

A “Reset” button appears in the panel header whenever a filter is active, and a small badge on the Filters button shows how many filters you have on.

Tap any card to open it. You get the full text, the submitter, the prayer count, and any updates that have been posted.

At the bottom of the panel, left and right chevrons walk you through the requests one at a time, with a “3 of 27” counter — a comfortable way to pray through the whole wall without closing anything.

4.1 Updates

If the person has posted news, an “Updates” section lists each one with a coloured tag: grey “Update”, green “Praise”, or amber “Resolved”.

Sign in, then tap the “Submit a Prayer Request/Praise” bar floating at the bottom of the home page.

5.1 The form

Title

Required: Yes

Notes: A short headline for the card. Up to 80 characters; needs at least three.

Request

Required: Yes

Notes: What you would like people to pray for. Up to 600 characters; needs at least five.

Category

Required: Pre-filled

Notes: Pick the closest fit. The list is maintained by the prayer team.

Campus

Required: Pre-filled

Notes: Defaults to your home campus. Change it to post to another campus’s wall. (Only shown if your account is linked to more than one campus.)

When is this happening?

Required: No

Notes: Optional date. The request comes off the wall after that date. Leave it blank and it stays until it is answered or archived.

Time sensitive

Required: No

Notes: Tap the amber card to mark it urgent. Urgent requests sort higher and carry a warning triangle.

Visibility

Required: Public

Notes: Tap “Change” to choose “Public” (anyone on the wall) or “Prayer team only” (only the church prayer team sees it).

Submit anonymously

Required: No

Notes: Hides your name on the wall. Your name is still visible to the reviewing team.

Tap “Submit”. You will see “Request submitted — the pastoral team will review and post it to the wall.”

5.2 What happens next

Your request appears on the wall immediately, but only in your own view, carrying an “Awaiting review” pill. Nobody else sees it until an approver approves it. Once approved it becomes an ordinary card. If you later mark it answered, it stays on the public wall as a praise for three days, then files into your own history.

6.1 The “My Requests” section

Above the wall, a “My Requests” section appears when you have anything that is not on the wall — something that was not approved, or something that has been resolved. It is collapsed by default; tap the count pill to open it. Inside, a “Show Resolved” pill reveals your archived and older answered requests.

6.2 If your request was not approved

You get an email, and the request shows in “My Requests” with a flag. Open it and you will see the reviewer’s reason and, usually, a note explaining what they need.

Needs more info

What it means: The team would like more context before posting it.

Can you resubmit?: Yes — edit and resend

Already prayed for

What it means: A similar request is already on the wall, and yours is being prayed alongside it.

Can you resubmit?: Yes

Not approved

What it means: It did not meet the wall’s guidelines (privacy, gossip, off-topic).

Can you resubmit?: No

Not posted

What it means: Something else — the reviewer’s note will explain.

Can you resubmit?: Yes

Where resubmitting is offered, an “Edit & resubmit” button re-opens the form with everything you wrote already filled in. Make your changes and tap “Resubmit”.

6.3 Editing a request that is already on the wall

Open your request, tap the ⋮ menu, then “Edit prayer request”. Change the title, text, category, urgency, visibility, anonymity, or the date it comes off the wall, and tap “Save changes”.

6.4 Posting an update

Open your request, tap ⋮, then “Post an update”. Choose a type — “Update”, “Praise” or “Resolved” — write your message (up to 2,000 characters) and tap “Post update”. Everyone praying for the request sees it.

6.5 Marking a request answered or archived

Open the request, tap ⋮, and use the Status options: “Active”, “Answered” or “Archived”. Answered requests stay on the wall as a praise for three days. Archived ones come off immediately and move to your resolved history.

This is the 24·7 side of the site: you claim the same time every week, and the church knows that hour is covered.

  1. 1On the home page, tap the green “Sign Up to Pray” banner.
  2. 2Pick a weekday from the seven pills across the top (Monday first). Days you already pray are tinted green with a small dot.
  3. 3Scroll the list of 24 hours and tap the one you want. Each row tells you its state — see the table below.
  4. 4Choose your 15-minute blocks. Tapping an hour opens four buttons — for example “1:00 – 1:15 PM” through “1:45 – 2:00 PM”. Pick one, two, three or all four. A summary line confirms what you chose, e.g. “1:00 – 1:30 PM · 30 min”.
  5. 5Repeat for as many hours and days as you like. The button at the bottom updates to “Continue · 3 times”.
  6. 6Choose a reminder: “Text message” (10 minutes before) or “No reminder”. If we do not have your mobile number, type it in — it is saved to your record.
  7. 7Tap “Sign up”. You will see “You’re signed up” with a list of everything you claimed, plus optional toggles for prayer team emails and prayer texts.

7.1 Reading the hour list

Plain, “Tap to choose”

What it means: Nobody has claimed any part of this hour.

Amber, “3 praying”

What it means: Some of the hour is covered. You are welcome to join.

Red, “Hour covered”

What it means: All four blocks are taken. You can still join if you want to.

Green, “You’re praying”

What it means: This is yours. Tap it to change your blocks or remove it.

7.2 Changing or cancelling a signup

Three places do the same job:

  • From the hour list: tap your green row, adjust the four block checkboxes, and tap “Save changes”. Uncheck all four and the button becomes “Remove this signup” — tap it twice to confirm.
  • From “Upcoming Sessions” on the home page: tap the trash icon on a card, then “Delete” (or “Keep” to back out).
  • From your profile: tap your avatar, find the signup under “Upcoming signups”, and use the same trash icon.

Deleting a repeating signup cancels the whole weekly series. A slot you have already prayed cannot be deleted.

7.3 The “Upcoming Sessions” section

Your commitments show as cards under “Upcoming Sessions”. Ten minutes before your slot begins, the card turns into a bright “Live now” card with a “Start” button — tapping it takes you straight into a prayer session. Cards refresh themselves, so you do not have to reload the page.

A session is a guided walk through the actual requests on the wall. Start one from the “Sessions” page, the “Begin” button, a “Live now” card, or “This hour needs prayer · Cover it now”.

First you pick a mode:

Timed

How it works: One request at a time with a countdown. Choose 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes per request. Cards advance automatically when time runs out.

Best for: A set amount of time — your prayer hour

Deck

How it works: Tap through requests at your own pace. No timer. Option to show urgent ones first.

Best for: Praying while you have a spare moment

Guided

How it works: Scripture-led. The prayer guide’s sections are interleaved with two or three requests at a time. You choose which sections to include.

Best for: A fuller devotional time

Then you can narrow by category, and you get a short centering screen — a verse and a breathing circle, with a “Begin” button that counts down from 22 seconds and starts on its own if you let it.

8.1 During a session

Mark a request prayed and move on

How: Tap “I Prayed”, or swipe the card to the right

Skip a request

How: Tap “Skip”, or swipe the card to the left

Read the whole request

How: Tap the card — a read-only panel opens

Linger on one request (Timed mode)

How: Press and hold the card. The timer pauses and “Lingering · release to continue” appears. Let go to resume.

Leave the session

How: Tap the X in the top-left corner

Tapping “I Prayed” really does record a prayer against that request — the public count moves.

8.2 Finishing — the summary and your journal

At the end you see how many people you prayed for and how long it took, plus a box headed “What did God put on your heart?”. Anything you type is saved as you type it, both on your device and against the session. Tap “Done” to finish, or “Pray again” to start another.

Everything you have prayed through is listed on the “Sessions” page under “Your prayer journal” — mode, duration, date, how many you prayed for, and your note.

Under “Resources” in the header. All of it is maintained by staff.

  • Guides — “How to Pray” and a “Fasting Guide”. Each opens a step-through with Scripture, a reference, and prayer points; progress dots let you jump between steps and “Start Over” resets it. A guide card is greyed out when there is nothing in it yet.
  • Blog — articles on prayer from Woodside. Cards open in a new tab, and “Read More on the Blog” goes to the main site.
  • Recommended Books — a list of titles, authors and short descriptions. These are reading suggestions, not links.

Tap your avatar in the top-right corner.

  • Under your name, how many days you have prayed, with your streak beside it once you have prayed two or more days in a row.
  • Your prayer life: Prayers, Sessions and Minutes.
  • Your requests: Submitted, Answered, and how many prayers your requests have received.
  • The numbers refresh each time you open the profile.
  • Upcoming signups, each with a trash icon to cancel.
  • Two switches: “Subscribe to Prayer Team emails” (updates from your campus prayer team) and “Receive prayer text messages” (reminders and prayer updates by text).

The text switch is your overall consent to be texted. The “Text message” reminder choice you made when signing up for an hour is separate and per-slot.

Names, emails and campuses are not edited here — campus is chosen from the header, and contact details come from MinistryPlatform.

If your account is linked to more than one campus, a campus button sits in the header next to your avatar.

  • Your campus decides which requests you see by default, and which campus wall a new request of yours posts to.
  • The “All Campuses” chip in the wall filters is a browsing choice only. It never changes where your next request posts.
  • Church-wide requests appear on every campus’s wall.
  • If you belong to only one campus, you will never see campus controls at all.

“No prayer requests in this category yet.”

What it means / what to do: Nothing matches your current filters. Open Filters and tap “Reset”.

“Could not submit — please try again”

What it means / what to do: The save did not reach the server. Your text is still in the form — tap Submit again.

“Could not delete — restoring your signup”

What it means / what to do: The cancellation failed and the signup has been put back. Try again.

Your prayer did not seem to count

What it means / what to do: You are probably signed out, or you closed the request too quickly. Stay on it for a second.

No reminder text arrived

What it means / what to do: Check the text switch in your profile, and that we have your mobile number. Reminders are also skipped if you sign up inside the 10-minute window. If you once replied STOP to a Woodside text, reminders come by email instead — text START to (248) 988-9808 to switch back.

“Oops — looks like you’ve wandered off the path”

What it means / what to do: A bad or old link. Tap “Back to Home”.

“Something Went Wrong”

What it means / what to do: Refresh. If it persists, note the “Error ID” shown and send it to the tech team.

Still stuck? Reach out to your campus prayer team and someone will help.
